The knife grinder
The grinder or sharpening was someone who reported the wire all the tools suitable for cutting various types of materials through abrasive stones of various sizes and shapes.
It was an ancient craft practised by skilled masters who had their own workshops or were flanked to the blacksmith (with whom he often could be confused as complementary work to the latter).
Swords, knives, scissors, scalpels should always be well sharpened: the grinder made knives sharp and ready to use by rubbing tools on grinding wheels or stones with grit increasingly fine.
