The Embroiderer
The embroidery has got earlier origins and consists in sewing a drawing by using needles and coloured strings on a textile such as clothes, banners of various sizes.
The embroidered and the spinning were done by the women and this case by the upper class.
The sewing strings could be made of wool, linen, hemp or silk; the implementation techniques were miscellaneous, the smaller the stitches were the bigger the details on the finished work were.
The most important example belonging to the medieval period is the Bayeux Tapestry made in the XII century and wrongly classified as a tapestry, since the designs are embroidered rather than woven; in fact, the way of its execution gave name to the type of stitch used.
